Arguably the hottest and most discussed car to be unveiled in 2019, the Chevy Corvette C8 remains a mystery, with very little official information to run by as of November. Thankfully, the rumor has provided us some data in recent months and now it's back with pricing information, placing the mid-engined sports car at $169,900 before options.

Who Spilled the Beans?

That's the word from CorvetteForum.com, where a user known to have provided info from credible sources in the past claims revealed this price tag. Of course, nothing is official just yet, but this sticker isn't far from previously rumored figures around the $150,000 mark. What's more, it's usually forum enthusiasts that dig up the data and obtain info from dealers before we're supposed to find out. It happened with the Mustang, the Camaro, and the previous-gen Corvette, so it might very well be an accurate sticker.

Is it too Expensive?

The leaked information created a big storm on the forum, with more than 20 pages of chatter in only a few days. It seems that several members expected the C8 to remain in a more affordable bracket under the $100,000 mark. At $169,900, the mid-engined Corvette will probably hit $200,000 with a few options and some potential buyers are far from happy.

Some claim that $169K is just way too much for a Chevrolet. "I can buy a pre-owned 2017 Mclaren 570S for $145k with less than 4k miles and with a 3-year unlimited mile warranty. I can buy an Audi R8 for under that price. That is a hand-built car with a hand-built V10. Even the Viper was hand-built and came in at just $100k," said one member.

Needless to say, these kind of reactions aren't surprising. Chevy is entering new territory with the C8, one that seems awfully expensive for a brand that usually competes in non-premium segments.

But Is it that Ridiculous?

For a Chevy badge, yes, the C8 will be awfully expensive at more than $150,000. On the other hand, GM might want to tackle big guns like Porsche, McLaren, and Lamborghini with the C8, in which case it's not all that bad. If this mid-engined Corvette hits the market as a halo car, it might have the same success as the Ford GT, which sold like hot-cakes in its first months on the market and continues to do well.

It Might not Be that Bad

As another user claims, the C8 might not be this expensive. This sticker could sit on a top-of-the-line model with massive output. Chevy could also offer a less powerful, but still appealing model, for less than $100,000. Think of the Porsche 911 here. While the Turbo and the GT3 cost in excess of $140,000, the base Carrera model comes in at $91,100.

When's it Coming out?

Obviously, we'll find out more about the pricing when the C8 debuts.

Until that happens, stay tuned for more rumors and check out our speculative review for more information.
