Mini will unveil its first sports activity model in 2009. It will be badged "Monte" and will be based on the recently launched Clubman. The 2009 Monte will be launched next year at the Paris Motor Show. Prices are expected to start at around £2,000 more than the Clubman.

The Monte will be offered only as a FWD model. It will sport a series of modifications to adapt it to the rough stuff. The Monte will be fitted with a tough off-road bodykit, and will also be the first MINI ever to be fitted with five doors.

Mini will develop a larger diesel powerplant for its new Monte. Also an enhanced version of the Efficient Dynamics is under development.

The Monte will also feature: stop-start engine technology to help reduce fuel use in stationary traffic, ultra-efficient gearbox and a regenerative braking system.
