Mini is all about small cars, but apparently not small enough! The company announced plans for a new affordable city car that will compete with models like Smart Fortwo->ke1744 and complement BMW's MegaCity car. This decision comes in an attempt to boost sales by adding new models at the lower end of its line-up.

In a recent interview with AutoCar, a Mini->ke57 source said that smaller cars lacked the profitability that the more popular three-door models: "The question we’ve asked ourselves all along is: how do we make money at this level? Nothing is decided just yet. It is all at an early stage of conception. But there is a lot of momentum behind it right now. We may be ready to show a concept within the next 12 months or perhaps a little longer."

Even if Mini did not confirm if the new model will be a two or four-seater, the length is expected to be in the 3050mm area, making it 300mm longer than today’s Smart. Other than that, Mini has locked up their lips and thrown away the key.
