Is it just me or really the future is about Electric Cars? It seems so, because lately we gave you so many news about electric models coming on the market and about makers wanted to produce electric cars. And now is Mitsubishi's turn to consider an electric prototype for the Lancer Evo.

The new Lancer Evolution MIEV (short for Mitsubishi In-wheel motor Electric Vehicle) makes the 0 to 60mph in 6.9 seconds and has a top speed of 115mph. The MIEV, tipped to hit the road within four to five years, looks like a standard Evo with big wheels.

Concealed inside each wheel is a powerful electric motor. Producing 50kW each, or 200kW in total, they develop the equivalent of 270bhp and also generates 382 lbs-ft of torque. And although the car’s range stands at a mere 150 miles on a single charge, the torque helps you forget this.

A smaller version of Mitsubishi’s first production electric car it is due to go into production by 2008.
