If you're a Mopar fan, I don't think it can get any better than this one can it now? Demon and Charger are two of the most iconic names in Dodge's history and this video by Wheels shows them in a head-to-head. I wish I knew what the numbers were though, especially on the classic muscle car here, but since they weren't available, I'll quickly run you through the baseline figures on both cars.

1968 Dodge Charger R/T

The car featured here is a 1968 Dodge Charger R/T, and it is by far one of the most recognizable shapes in the muscle car world. Under the hood 426ci or 6.9-Liter HEMI V-8 that in its stock form put out 125 ponies and 490 pound-feet of torque.

That might V-8 sent its power to the rear wheels via either a 3-Speed manual or auto. The '68 Charger weighs 3,979 pounds. CarandDriver rated it at 13.5 seconds to do the 1/4 mile at 105 mph.

Dodge Demon

Now, on to the modern-day Demon, which really needs no introduction. A limited-run car, designed with one sole purpose of becoming the most usable drag racer from the factory, that you can also use on the street, the Demon made headlines when it first debuted back in 2018.

You already know the numbers, but here they are anyway. Its 6.2-Liter HEMI V-8 dishes out 840 horsepower on race gas and 770 pound-feet of torque. The owner of this particular car splurged $1 more to get the Demon Crate as well which adds all the performance bits and bobs like the super sticky skinny front tires. The Demon weighs 4,280 pounds. 1/4 mile was rated at 9.54 seconds at 140 mph.

The Race

After pulling some burnout to put some heat into the rubber, both cars were ready. The lights go out the Demon took off on point like a rocket and was gone. The driver in the Classic car meanwhile had a poor reaction time and suffered from traction issues early on. As a result, it was easy pickings from the Demon, which demolished the 1/4 mile in 10.02 seconds at 134.7 mph against the Chargers 12.82 at 113.99 mph.

Conclusion

Okay, so the Charger lost. So what? Taking down a Demon was never really going to be an easy feat, to begin with. But, something like Jim Pranis' 8.99-second Charger surely would have given the Demon a tough fight. Even the '68 Charger in this video ought to have some mods under the hood as it was originally rated at 14 seconds in a 1/4 mile.

And, in the looks department, there is no contest really, in my opinion, the old-school car wins by a country mile.
