Of course it’s not the first time you hear that McLaren has future plans for more versions of the McLaren MP4-12C sports car. In fact, the company wants to make the MP4 a family just like Porsche and their 911 dynasty.

And the first version to be offered after the 12C officially goes on sale will be a 2+2 model that will accommodate children, according to the company, in the tight rear space.

Like with the 12C, the 2+2 version will be powered by a V8 bi-turbo engine that is combined with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox to produce 600 hp. Wait did we just use "600hp" and "accommodate children" in the same article? Weird. Let’s just pretend they said "a few friends" and move on. Anyways, it will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3.5 seconds, while top speed will be kept in the 200mph area. The McLaren MP4-12C will use carbon monocoques as part of their body design in an effort to decrease the weight of the car and reduce CO2 emissions to produce better driving dynamics.

Is this inspired by the Lotus Evora 2+2? Because the 2+0 Evora has been called the better choice by magazines.

Wow! with more than two seats. I think it looks like at least one of your dates will have to sit in the back.

It looks more like the 360 Modena to me... sort of a Ferrari 360/Porsche 911 cross.

The auto purist in me is saddened by the lack of a true manual transmission in the new crop of super cars.

Whoever did the actual design of this car, must have loved the Ferrari F430. It looks like they started with that as the model, and then built on it from there.

Price this right and the 911 turbo may soon have its first real competitor in performance, class and quality since the Supra vs the 993 turbo.
