More Than 7,000 Customers Applied For The New Ford GT
Assuming at least half the applicants meet Ford’s criteria, the Ford GT is pretty much sold out alreadyby Robert Moore, on
The previous Ford GT was produced in just 4,000 examples, and Ford has said that production numbers for the new Ford GT will be far less than that. In fact, Ford has said that production of the new Ford GT will be limited to 250 models per year, with less than 20 of those heading across the big blue to the U.K. While Ford has yet to announce an official production target, it has just announced on its social media accounts that more than 7,000 people have applied for the new supercar.
Of course, this news comes shortly after Ford launched the GT online configurator, which has obviously spawned plenty of interest. Not to mention all the interest that was generated when the car debuted at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. It would be interesting to hear more specifics about where the orders are spread out globally, but I’m sure we’ll hear more about that in the future.
Even with 7,000 applications on file for the new GT, Ford is still keeping a lot of information about its newest supercar to itself. We know the 3.5-liter, EcoBoost V-6 under the hood should put out somewhere close to 600 horsepower. We also know that pricing will be somewhere around $550,000 here in the U.S., but that is just a rough estimate considering Ford has yet to announce official pricing.

Why it matters
The new GT starts production this year, and the first customers should be expecting delivery by the end of the year. With 7,000 applications on hand, you can pretty much consider that Ford GT as sold out. Of course, Ford has set forth some criteria for purchasing one as well – it is even making purchasers sign a legal document saying that they will care for the car and drive it. The document also prevents the resale of the car until a certain time period has passed. Last we knew this was criteria for the first 250 models, but with the car having such a following, I wouldn’t put it past Ford to force these measures on every person who purchases one. Either way, with 7,000 orders already filed, the Ford GT is sure to be a hit. If you really want to get your hands on one, I suggest you get your application in quickly.
