Thousands of miles away from Connecticut, a group of reckless and rude drivers came face-to-face with the long arm of the law after intentionally stopping traffic on the San Francisco Bay Bridge just so they could hoon and make donuts with their Ford Mustangs and Toyota Supras. It’s unclear exactly what their intentions are, but a good guess on their motives would involve words like “stupidity, carelessness, and all-around douchebaggery.”

There’s been a lot of this flagrant “look-at-me” traffic incidents happening lately, and don’t expect it to subside anytime soon. In this instance, the scene of the misfit mayhem was San Francisco, specifically the city’s iconic Bay Bridge. According to reports, three cars — two Ford Mustangs and one Toyota Supra — inexplicably stopped traffic on the bridge, all because they wanted to hoon their cars and do donuts.

It’s bad enough that they stopped traffic and earned the ire of frustrated motorists, but the situation took a turn for the worse when they started turning reckless with their stunts. The driver of the Mustang SN95 Convertible, for example, had his passenger door open during the whole time for reasons that are still unclear at this point.

Fortunately, local authorities were immediately alerted of the rude behavior and responded swiftly, arresting the idiot driver of the Mustang that also happened to sustain damage while it was performing those ill-fated burnouts. There’s no word on what damage it incurred, but the best guess is that it either damaged its wheel axle or had a tire blowout. Either way, it’s a good thing it happened because it was probably the only way to stop the fools from turning what was already a bad situation into a worse one.

And the happiest news of all, the driver of the older Mustang that broke down was arrested and charged with reckless driving and exhibition of speed. Authorities also impounded his car for 30 days. The two other drivers managed to escape the initial arrest, but the California Highway Patrol has already stopped one and cited them for a number of mechanical violations. The other driver that was caught in the video performing donuts is still at large, but don’t expect the situation to remain the status quo very long. He should be caught and booked soon.

There are a number of lessons to be learned here, one of which is the danger of reckless driving, not just to the driver, but to all other motorists near him. Then there’s the needless desire to get attention and feed the ego. There are ways to do it without endangering those around you.
