I’d want one on my wrist

Christmas is just around the corner, so the holiday shopping craze is effectively in full swing. If you’re still looking for a gift for somebody who happens to love Ford Mustangs, these new timepieces from Rec Watches called the P-51 make for perfect gifts. It may not be a Hublot or a Panerai, but they are unique for one reason: they’re made from salvaged Ford Mustangs.

The people behind REC Watches source their materials from Ford Mustangs that are beyond repair

The story behind the creation of these watches is as fascinating as it is incredible. The people behind REC Watches source their materials from Ford Mustangs that are beyond repair. They don’t touch Mustangs that are in good condition, or even those that can be restored, no matter how difficult that process may be. They stick to scrappers. Once they’ve identified a Mustang they can use, they take parts of that Mustang and use those parts for their watches. They use the metal panels. They use the dials from the cars. They even try to get the identification plates of the scrapped ‘Stangs, right down to the VIN numbers. From there, they start the very real process of building these watches individually depending on the materials they have in front of them.

The result is a thing of beauty. All P-51 watches carry the same design theme. The fuel gauge serves as the power dial, which shows the watch’s battery life. Just below it is the main face, numbers, and hands of the watch. All together, they resemble the components you’d normally find on the instrument cluster on an old-school Mustang.

If the result isn’t cool enough, REC Watches also makes it a point to dig up the history of the specific donor Mustang that they’re using

If the result isn’t cool enough, REC Watches also makes it a point to dig up the history of the specific donor Mustang that they’re using. It even tries to find the car’s previous owners, then makes a video for the watch it creates to tell its backstory.

Needless to say, the P-51 watches don’t come cheap. There are three designs available, and pricing starts at $1,495 depending on the style. If the P-51s aren’t to your liking, REC Watches also has other offerings, including watches made from salvaged Porsche 911s and Mini Coopers. Hard to imagine finding a story like this one.
