What can you do with a second-hand Lotus Exige and £1,000,000 (around $1,600,000)? Why not build a high performance electric sports car? That’s exactly what Ecotricity’s founder, Dale Vince, did when he came up with the Nemesis, marking the first electric supercar that was designed and built in Britain.

The Nemesis is powered by two 125 kW motors that produce 330bhp and 600Nm of torque. These motors are mated to two stage belt driven reduction transaxle and get their energy from 96 x 100 A/h 4.2 V pouch lithium polymer cobalt cells. This power source can run the Nemesis from 0-100mph in 8.5 seconds and can hit a top speed of 170mph which, according to Ecotricity, is faster than a Ferrari V12. It can last for about 100-150 miles depending on how it is driven and can be charged from empty to full in about two hours with the optional fast charger. If the customer sticks with the 13A overnight charger, then a full charge will take eight to nine hours.

Read more about the Nemesis, as well as see the 13-part video series detailing its build, after the jump.

The actual build of the car was performed by "an ‘A-team’ of motorsport engineers," who have previously worked for McLaren, Williams, and Lotus. They have also built F1 and Le Mans racing cars. Basically, these are the guys you want to build the first ever all-Britain electric supercar. As part of the rebuilding of the Lotus Exige, these engineers lengthened the chassis and lowered and shifted the center of gravity. The total curb weight for the vehicle is 2,571lbs.

“We wanted to prove electric cars can be quick to develop, beautiful to look at, cheap to run, and run entirely on wind power”, said Dale Vince. “I was not looking for something ecological, worthy and a bit self-sacrificial, far from it. I wanted to create something exotic and desirable. Something that would turn heads and challenge stereotypes.”

The future seems to be bright for Dale Vince as he is confident of his success when he attacks the British electric car land speed record in 2011. He also plans on building a 250mph+ wind-powered electric supercar and an electric tractor.

Check out the Ecotricity’s Nemesis as it gets built from the ground up in this 13-part series. Don’t be alarmed when the videos begin; they all start the same way, but they are very different.

Awesome styling of the car. This is an eye catcher for sure. With regards to the competition, it can surely compete with Ferrari car that has V12 engine. They have almost the same output the way I see it.

I would agree with that. The car is a beauty, and the price is reasonable. I do like the name unique name of the car. On the other hand, i doubt if it can really beat the performance of the Ferrari V12.

Not my cup of tea, even if it was priced reasonably. But Nemesis is beautiful though.
