In fact his achievements were monumental. Michael’s record stood for more than a decade and it was only recently equalled by Lewis Hamilton

The legacy of Michael Schumacher, one of Formula One’s most iconic drivers, who is amongst the most powerful sportsmen in his discipline, will be brought to Netflix in the form of a documentary. The teaser was unveiled today, on the 30th anniversary of the German driver’s F1 debut with the Jordan team back in ’91.

The 52-year-old former driver has won seven World Championships to date (two with Benetton and five with Ferrari). Schumacher was involved in a major skiing accident at the end of 2013. This documentary arrives nearly 8 years after that accident in Méribel, France. There has been no public footage of the racer since December 29, 2013.

It begins with his early days as a racing driver. A young Michael can be seen lifting a trophy, dating back to his carting days
"30 years ago today, Michael Schumacher participated in his first Formula 1 Grand Prix, thus beginning a career destined to become a legend," states the tweet with the video attached.

Not much is known about Michael Schumacher’s since then, however, according to manager Sabine Kehm, this latest film will give us a rare insight into the Formula One driver’s life and will cover both sides of his life. The Schumacher family, who has always maintained Michael’s privacy over the years, has now finally supported this documentary project.

The film includes interviews with the former F1 champion’s father, Rolf Schumacher, brother Ralph Schumacher, his wife Corinna, and his two children, Gina and son, current Haas F1 driver, Mick Schumacher. Other personalities like Michael’s compatriot, Sebastian Vettel, who was inspired by Michael, also features in the trailer.

So far, Lewis Hamilton remains the only other F1 driver, to have matched Michael’s seven world championships. This film is a must-watch for any Formula One aficionado, to see just what goes into making an F1 world champion. Having watched Senna in the past, and gone all teary-eyed, I can’t wait for this one.
