Popular Mechanics has posted the latest spy photos of the upcoming 2008 Corvette “SS” undergoing street testing, with only mild disguising of the changes in the body from the regular C6 and current Z06 models.

The hood has a bulge to accommodate the supercharger which is expected to be a unit with the intake manifold. The hood is expected to be carbon fiber, something first used on the last C5 Z06. The black roof panel on this car, plus a similar panel spotted in earlier spy photos, lead many to concluded that the roof panel on the “SS” will be carbon fiber, as well.

There is a wicker-bill like spoiler across the width of the rear deck, an aerodynamic aid for preventing rear lift, and the car is wearing Michelin tires, not Goodyears. The wheel design shows inboard and outboard spokes. Rear wheels are thought to be 20 inches in diameter.

Expected top speed is at least 200 mph from at least 600 hp.
