As far as affordable vehicles go, few cars have a cult following quite like that of the Honda Civic. While versions like the Civic Si or Civic Type-R tend to steal the spotlight, the Honda Civic Hybrid is also making a comeback, for 2023, after eight years of absence. With that said, the 2023 Civic Hybrid already made its debut in Europe, in March, and Honda recently revealed more details about it. Our colleagues at HotCars covered the topic a few months back, but here’s what the Civic Hybrid will be like when it arrives in the U.S.

Honda Civic Hybrid e:HEV Specs

With the hybrid version of the new Honda Civic, the Japanese brand now has a fully-hybridized lineup in Europe. The engine is a 2.0-liter inline-four with an Atkinson cycle and works with two electric motors. The total system output is 181 horsepower (135 kilowatts) and 232 pound-feet (315 Nm). At the same time, the Civic e:HEV has a WLTP rating of 108 g/km CO2 and 50.0 mpg (4.7L/100 km). The 2.0-liter engine also boasts an industry-leading 41 percent thermal efficiency. For now, the only transmission that’s confirmed to be available is an eCVT.

2023 Honda Civic Hybrid Price

The Honda Civic e:HEV has already been announced for the UK, with prices starting at around £29,595, which comes up to $35,508, according to 2022 exchange rates. With that being said, the starting price for the U.S. version of the Civic Hybrid is expected to be around $28,000 with destination charge. Of course, at this point, that figure is speculated and the only reference is the now-discontinued Honda Insight Hybrid, which the Civic e:HEV is expected to replace.

2023 Honda Civic Hybrid Launch and Release Date

Throughout most of its generations, the Honda Civic was offered in a variety of body styles. The ones that have remained over the years are the hatchback and sedan versions, with the occasional coupe version. So far, the information we have about the hybrid Civic concerns only the hatchback, which is what’s available in Europe. With that said, the U.S. might also get a sedan version of the compact Japanese hybrid. One question that still remains is where will the U.S-spec Honda Civic e:HEV be manufactured?

We know that UK versions are being imported from Japan, since Honda’s UK production plant, in Swindon, closed down. While Honda closed down some of its major factories, there’s still a good chance that cars meant for the U.S. market will be manufactured in Japan. Of course, there’s a high probability that the hybrid version of the eleventh-generation Civic will be produced in Honda’s plant in Greensburg, Indiana, which is where the other U.S-spec Honda Civics are being manufactured. As for when the U.S. launch of the Civic Hybrid, while a specific date is yet to be confirmed, you can expect it to debut in late 2023 or early 2024.
