New Leak Exposes Just How Fast the 2022 Chevy C8 Corvette Z06 Really Is

Believe it or not, the C8 Corvette Z06 is apparently just as fast and the C7 Corvette ZR1!

Chevy didn’t spill all of the beans when it revealed the C8 Corvette Z06, but it did tell us a lot. The naturally aspirated LT6 V-8 engine is downright amazing, and the Z07 package definitely makes the new Z06 more than track-worthy with some crazy aerodynamic magic. We’ve even learned some of the secrets behind the Z06’s crazy engine, and why chevy didn’t go with forced induction. What we didn’t learn, however, was final performance figures like the 0-60 mph sprint and how well it can run a quarter-mile. Well, that was until now, and it all comes thanks to a leaked picture of a Chevy product board for the new Z06.

The C8 Corvette Z06 Is Just As Fast as the C7 Corvette ZR1!

As for the even more expensive Ford GT, well it’s definitely slower, taking 3.0 seconds to 60 mph. It runs the quarter-mile in 10.8 seconds with a trap speed of 134 mph.

According to the leaked product board that was posted on Corvette Forum by user Z0Sick6, Chevy is billing the Corvette Z06 as “a supercar unlike anything you’ve ever seen before.” We can argue about whether that’s true later, but what’s more important is what comes below that. According to the product board, Chevy is going to advertise the Z06’s 0-60 mph sprint time as 2.6 seconds and its quarter-mile sprint time of 10.6 seconds. There’s no given trap speed yet, but it should also be noted that Chevy is including a footnote with both figures and, unfortunately, it’s unreadable and yet to be deciphered. Chances are those figures are obtained with the optional carbon fiber wheels, Z07 package, and some special tires, but we’ll have to wait and see before we can say for sure.

With this said, a 10.6-second quarter mile makes the Z06 as fast at the C7 Corvette ZR1, which was able to run quarter-mile in 10.6 seconds at 134 mph and was, until now, the fastest and most powerful Corvette ever made.

Now, this also makes us wonder just how crazy the C8 Corvette ZR1 or the E-Ray Corvette will be as they will obviously be faster than the new Z06. Looking even deeper into the C8’s predecessors, the C7 Corvette Z06 was clocked by Car & Driver at 10.9 seconds for the quarter-mile, so the new Z06 is also 0.3 seconds faster than it – a decent improvement. As for the 0-60 mph sprint, the 2.6-second rating also makes it quite a bit faster than the C7, which had a published rating of 2.95 seconds with an automatic transmission or 3.2 seconds with a manual transmission.

As for the competition, well the Z06 really doesn’t compete with anything, as it’s quite literally the cheapest mid-engine supercar on the market, probably retailing at around $90,000 in base form and maxing out at around $110,000 when fully equipped. In this case we’ll have to look at more expensive cars like the $276,550 Ferrari F8 Tributo and the $500,000 Ford GT because, you know, the Ford vs. Chevy rivalry that will never die. For the Ferrari, we’re talking about a 3.9-liter, twin-turbo V-8 that delivers a cool 710 horsepower and 567 pound-feet of torque, which is considerably more than the new Z06 with 670 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The F8 Tributo, however, takes 2.9 seconds to get to 60 mph and runs the quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds at 139.3 mph (Motor Trend testing). So, it’s slower to 60 mph but faster in the quarter-mile. Fair enough.

What about the Ford GT, though? At $500,000 it definitely has to be faster, right? Wrong. If you paid $500,000 for a Ford GT, you paid for exclusivity and heritage – even if its performance is on point. Its 3.5-liter, twin-turbo, V-6 is good for 647 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque, which is enough to get you to 60 mph in 3.0 seconds and down the quarter-mile in 10.8 seconds at 134 mph (Car & Driver testing). So yeah, the new C8 Z06 will literally spank the Ford GT to 60 mph and down the quarter-mile and for 30-percent of the cost at most.
