The 2019 SEMA Auto Show hosted no less than five different Toyota Supra concepts. None of them, though, can compete with the audacity of this custom rendering of a tricked-out Toyota Supra created by Ambielec Design.

Inspired by the Need For Speed: Heat video game that was launched earlier this month, this Supra rendering wears what is arguably the wildest wide-body kit we’ve seen on the returning Japanese sports coupe. video game that was launched earlier this month, this Supra rendering wears what is arguably the wildest wide-body kit we’ve seen on the returning Japanese sports coupe.}} It’s modified to an extent that the only two possible reactions to this rendering are to either love it or hate it. We’re still not sure where we are on that scale.

There are custom tuning kits for cars that we find difficult to wrap our heads around. This one — actually a rendering — from Ambielec Design counts as one of them. It’s actually pretty cool when you see it at first glance. Those massive fenders look great and the rear section borders on stunning.

Then you take a closer look at the kit on the Supra and that’s when it gets a little curious. Take the headlights, for example. They’re gone. I don’t mean that to say that standard headlamps have been replaced by something different that serves the same purpose. They’re Ambielec Design gone, intentionally covered up by the artist because he didn’t like what the stock headlamps looked like. Great. The solution, it seems, was to cover the headlamps completely and replace them with a pair of rally-style lamps that are integrated into the front bumper. I understand the intention to make the Supra’s front section look completely different, but this approach seems to take it a tad too far.

That said, the rest of the wide-body kit looks great. While we’re here: when was the last time you saw a custom Supra with striking gills integrated into the rear bumper, just behind the rear wheels? The rear diffuser is to die for, too, as is the set of gold multi-spoke wheels and tires that extend so far out of the axles to keep up with the wide-body treatment.

I still don’t know what to make of this rendering. There are parts about it that I love. There are parts about it that I hate. Overall, I expect this kit to get a lot of attention, at least if it moves beyond the rendering phase. actually} If there’s anything we’ve learned about the new Toyota GR Supra, it’s that the sports car is proving to be a good platform for rendering projects and tuning programs.

Toyota brought five examples — the Supra HyperBoost Edition, Supra Performance Line, Supra Heritage Edition, Supra Wasabi, and Supra 3000GT — at the 2019 SEMA Auto Show to drive home this point. Outside of these five creations, we’ve also seen the Supra’s BMW-sourced 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six-cylinder engine benefit of an incredible engine upgrade program that yielded 770 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque.

These are the kind of possibilities a proper tuning job offers for the new Toyota GR Supra. Imagine for a second owning a Supra that wears a body kit like the one Ambielec Design created and has 770 horsepower on tap, will you? It’s a crazy thought, and yet, nothing about the Supra’s aftermarket potential looks and sounds crazy anymore.
