A full update for Mercedes-Benz’s mid-size luxury SUV is well on its way, and Merc is building hype with an extremely brief teaser vid that gives us a glimpse at the GLE’s new CLS-inspired headlights.

The Full Story
Originally dubbed the M Class, the third-generation GLE has been around since 2011, with the most recent update including a facelift for 2016. That means the GLE is definitely ready for a substantial overhaul, which leads us to the 2019 model year teased in this most recent 3-second video posted to YouTube.
While brief, the video does show off the GLE’s new fascia, albeit draped in shadow.
While the teaser really doesn’t reveal a whole lot, it does show the GLE’s more beefy aesthetic, including large side intakes and an upright fascia.
There’s also a double dose of checkmark-shaped daytime running lights per headlight housing, complete with full LED lighting technology, while the trademark three-pointed star badge is set in the middle of the uppermost intake. The roof also gets the traditional luggage rail bits. Word has it the new model will also gain an additional 3 inches in overall length.
Step inside the interior, and you’ll find an even more significant update, as the GLE will gain Merc’s latest dash design, a dual-screen infotainment setup, and fresh ambient lighting to boot.
In terms of the engine lineup, the top-spec GLE63 will come from AMG stuffed with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8, while lower in the range, the GLE will draw motivation from a series of four- and six-cylinder engines.
Also look for a possible hybrid option, while overseas, diesel is a strong possibility as well.
As for the drivetrain, customers will have a chance to grab either RWD or AWD, with a nine-speed automatic transmission offered for the cog swaps. The suspension will also incorporate off-roader spec equipment to rival the Range Rover, with a two-speed transfer case making the options list and the standard Active Body Control updated to match the SUV’s latest specs.
Merc promises more teasers are on the way, as the new GLE is headed for a full debut very soon. Make sure to check it out when it makes an appearance at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show in November.
