• Nick Picks A BMW X5 M To Send Holiday Cheers to One and All

Another day, another holiday-themed commercial from BMW. Remember the dad who ruined his daughter’s Christmas by getting too caught up with his BMW M3 pick-up’s performance abilities? Well, the German automaker has released a follow-up video featuring Santa Claus, or at least a different version of him, driving a brand-new BMW X5 M.

A BMW X5 M is a good choice for Santa Claus in the event he wants to give Rudolph and the rest of the reindeers a night off. The high-performance SUV packs a 4.4-liter V-8 engine that produces 567 horsepower and 533 pound-feet of torque. It also makes use of Bimmer’s xDrive system, which has proven to be very useful this time of the year. St. Nick made a smart choice in using the X5 M, something that he wasn’t bashful about showing off to the sheepish father and his BMW M3 pickup from the previous commercial. The ad closes with the Richard Branson-looking St. Nick putting a small Christmas tree on the dashboard of his X5 M. I’m not exactly sure what that means, but it is a nice nod to the coming holiday season.

The continuity of the story also makes me think that BMW has more commercials in store for us in the coming days. We’ll keep an eye out for those ads.

Kirby’s first exposure into the world of automobiles happened when he caught Knight Rider on television as a five-year old boy. David Hasselhoff didn’t leave much of an impression on him (that happened later on in Baywatch), but KITT certainly did. To this day, Kirby remains convinced that he will one day own a car with the same ‘spirit’ as the original KITT (not the 2008 monstrosity). He doesn't know when that will be, but until then, he’s committed to expressing his love for KITT, and all cars for that matter, here at TopSpeed.  Read full bio
