If the other Japanese manufacturers like Toyota and Honda are attacking the hybrid market with compact offerings like the Prius and Insight, Nissan is planning a different approach. Ever since the luxury arm, Infiniti, came up with the Essence concept car, the hamburger brand has announced that they will be coming up with a line of gas-electric luxury sedans, and a possible hybrid sports car.

The first Nissan electric vehicle will be unveiled in 2010, and soon followed by an Infiniti. Both the electric and hybrid vehicles will be powered by lithium ion batteries made through the Japanese automaker’s partnership with NEC.
