A small series that didn't get too much attention a few years ago, Formula E has become quite the big thing. Larger automakers all over the world are now interested in the series, with Audi, Jaguar, Renault, and Mahindra already competing this season. In addition, Venturi, DS, Nio, and Andretti run their own team. Although the 2017-2018 season is far from over, the FIA is already rounding up the lineup for the next championship and has already introduced the second-generation Formula E car at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Here, three competitors unveiled their liveries for next season, including Nissan, which joins the championship for the very first time.

As per FIA regulations, the cars are identical, so Nissan's single-seaters isn't different than Audi, for example. It has the same aggressive design with the long nose and the ridiculous rear diffuser, the external roll cage for the cockpit, and full fenders over the wheels. What sets this race car apart is the livery, which includes the usual colors seen on many Nissan race cars. The color scheme is actually very tasteful, with the upper section finished in silver and the lower section painted in black. The front splitter, the side pods, and the wheels sport red accents, a traditional color for Nismo vehicles.

Nissan had nothing to say about the drivetrain, but we already know that the new electric motor and battery setup provides more power and more range. For the first time, Formula E will no longer need mid-race car swaps, and this is a big step forward for the series.

“The level of competition in the Formula E championship is on the rise, and we’re eagerly awaiting the unique engineering challenge ahead. We’re entering the championship on a level playing field this year with every manufacturer competing with a brand new car, battery and powertrain combination from season five,” said Nissan global motorsport director, Michael Carcamo.

Nissan joins the Formula E for the first time, and it's one of four teams confirmed for the 2018-2019 season. Other entries include Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler, Andretti Autosport, and DS. Season five of the FIA Formula E championship is expected to visit major international cities including Hong Kong, Berlin, Zurich, Rome, and New York.
