First introduced back in 1969 as the Datsun 240Z, Nissan has produced six generations of its iconic Z car, with the latest Z34-gen 370Z arriving in late 2008 for the 2009 model year. The Full Story

There’s a lot to like about the Nissan 370Z. It looks good, with sharp lines and rounded, cab-back proportions. Customers can choose between either a two-door coupe or a two-door convertible for the body style. Motivation is derived from a front-mounted all-aluminum naturally aspirated 3.7-liter V-6, which sends upwards of 332 horsepower to the rear axle via a six-speed manual transmission (an automatic is also available).

However, at nearly ten years old, the 370Z is a bit long in the tooth, especially compared to the competition. However, Nissan doesn’t seem worried, as TopSpeed managed to talk to an industry insider on the issue, giving us an exclusive look at the automaker’s strategy for a next-gen Z.

“For now, we’re quite happy with the Z in its current form, and we’re looking to keep it around for the long term,” said the anonymous insider. “Most of our rivals are updating every 5 years or so, but we’re hoping to break that cycle.”

When asked about the timeframe Nissan had in mind, the anonymous insider said that the Japanese automaker was considering keeping the 370Z “for at least another 10 trillion years, give or take.”

“We’ll probably be forced to revisit the issue when we reach the inevitable heat death of the universe, but for now, we’re gonna stick with the 370Z.”
