Bentley and Rolls-Royce better start looking over their shoulders. Another luxury brand is looking to get a piece of the super luxury SUV market. That brand would be Mercedes-Maybach, Daimler’s high-class sub-brand. In a surprising move, Mercedes-Maybach is bringing a concept SUV to the Beijing Auto Show later this month. We don’t know much about it, but a new teaser sketch of the concept’s interior has been released, and it looks fancy.

We see you, Mercedes-Maybach. You definitely have our attention now. For those who were caught unaware of this development, the concept is called the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury. It’s supposed to preview a future luxury SUV to come out of the luxury brand that, according to Autocar, is scheduled to debut in production form at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show.

It’s unclear why Mercedes-Maybach appears to be rushing the launch of the production model, but we’re not going to spend too much time dissecting the perceived reasons. What’s important is that it’s coming, and it’s coming sooner than we all expected.

True to form, Mercedes-Maybach isn’t divulging any details until the concept’s debut, opting instead for a little teasing game to get us all excited about what the SUV could look like once the covers are pulled. We don’t know how it will look like from the outside, but the teaser sketch gives us a revealing look at the SUV’s interior, specifically the front section.

The first thing you’ll notice is how minimally styled it is. There’s a generous amount of space for both the driver and the front passenger. The dashboard, which looks to have been finished in a copper-colored leather trim, is as clean as a brand new whistle. The only thing that’s integrated into it is the massive digital cockpit display that hosts the MUBX infotainment system. The display is so large that it actually covers more than half the length of the dash. The lower section of the dashboard extends a little bit outward, giving it a nice change of pace in design. There seem to be four switches in the center console, and while we’re at it, the width of the center tunnel is so big it makes you wonder if you could fit a baby in the space between the two sliding bars.

We should learn more about the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury when it makes its debut at the Beijing Auto Show. On that note, now might be a good time to start preparing ourselves for a luxury SUV concept that could go in a number of different directions. Knowing Mercedes-Maybach, we could be in for a huge treat.
