What you’re looking at folks, is just one of three Shelby Cobra Super Snakes to have ever existed. This beautiful example recently crossed the block at Barrett Jackson’s Scottsdale auction for a cool $935,000. Shelby finished and delivered the CSX 4404 right around the time Carroll passed away in May 2012.

Overview

Carroll Shelby created automotive history in the 1960s with the Cobra, and the high-performance Super Snake was indeed dubbed the "Cobra to end all Cobras." In truth, only two original Super Snakes were ever created during that time period.

Carroll Shelby's own car, the CSX 3015, was wrecked, while CSX 3303 was unfortunately destroyed. Shelby has since developed what are classed as continuation Cobras. Enter the Super Snake CSX 4404, which is one of only three authorized continuation Super Snakes in existence.

The Timeless Design

Its design carries the proportions of a classic sports car, but we all know that the Cobra is so much more than that. This aluminum-bodied Super Snake is colored in Guardsman Blue and features black side pipes along with a chrome roll bar.

To clear the superchargers and dual 4-barrel carburetors, a bigger aluminum scooped bonnet was required. Although this example was created just 10 years ago, some of the details like the chrome fuel filler cap, that roll bar, the windshield, the strakes on the side are truly exquisite. They manage to capture the essence of the 60s.

The Cockpit

The same simplistic theme continues on the inside as well. You have nothing but the essentials. Remember, the Cobra was about one thing - the Drive. The wood-rimed steering, the black leather seats, the black carpet, and Shelby S/C type instruments,

The additional gauges to monitor boost and fuel pressure, dominate the dash. You’ve got Caroll Shelby’s signature as well to remind you that you are indeed sitting in one of the greatest sports cars of all time.

The Performance

Just like Carroll’s own car, the 4404 is powered by a 427ci V-8 engine and features the same dual Paxton superchargers feeding dual Holley 4-barrel carburetors sitting atop a Cross-Ram intake manifold. The engine is paired to a four-speed manual Toploader transmission.

Conclusion

So let’s wrap this up. The CSX 4404 has only had one owner and has less than 25 miles on the clock since new. The car’s build sheet and the original Shelby Automobiles, Inc., MSO, both signed by Carroll himself also came with the car.
