It's always a tossup whether manufacturers like Ferrari->ke252 will bring anything to events like the Goodwood Festival of Speed.->ke3879 While not technically an international auto show, it does attract almost as much attention from the automotive world at this point. So this year, Ferrari is participating, but in a restrained fashion, by sending a 2015 Ferrari California T that has been customized by the Tailor Made department. The blue-and-white color scheme is supposed to be polo and horse-racing themed, appropriate enough for a company with a horse for a logo.

The car certainly looks good, but the main focus here seems to be on the interior material, a proprietary material only available in Ferraris and called “Mycro Prestige.” Questionable name aside, this material is supposed to be pretty impressive; flameproof, water resistant, offering good grip and much thinner and lighter than regular leather. It's difficult to get of a sense of what it's like just from the photos, so we'll just have to take Ferrari's word for it for now. But it certainly does look good, as does the rest of the car, but that shouldn't come as too big a surprise.

Why it matters

High-end automakers have only recently realized how many of their customers were taking their cars straight from the dealership to an independent shop to be customized, and that there was a lot of money to be made in doing the customization right at the factory. Ferrari's program for this is called Tailor Made, and it works pretty much the same as the rest of them, with the manufacturer being willing to do most anything the customer is willing to pay for. A lot of manufacturers use show cars like these to show off some of the options available to customers, but Ferrari's are always pretty exceptional. They are distinct while still being tasteful and restrained, and showing a surprising amount of variety.
