The 1985 Buckingham, the only one of its kind in the world, is going up for auction in England on October 2nd, offered by BCA’s Classic & Historic vehicles division.

The vehicle, pictured here, was built by eight craftsman at Aston Martin Lagonda over a period of three years, following two years spent in its design.  At the time, it is estimated that construction of the vehicle cost at least $500,000.  It was constructed for an unnamed and wealthy car enthusiast seeking classic appearance with modern features.

In that idiom, the chassis is made of high tensile strength steel and the bodywork is hand-crafted from double-skinned aluminum.

The interior, air conditioned of course, is Champagne leather and rosewood trim and additional accents in black leather.

The exterior is burgundy and Champagne – guy was apparently a wine nut, too – and features a swan themed radiator mascot plus a radiator badge of gold inlaid with black enamel.

And, yes, entry into the rear compartment of the vehicle is through gullwing doors – something of an anomaly with formal coachwork, but certainly distinctive.

This vehicle has a mere 348 miles on it – which isn’t much, since it is 22 years old.  Taking into account a figure for depreciation, insurance, and other costs, gizmag.com calculated that the running cost of the vehicle is $1,400 to date.

How’d they come up with that figure?

Who knows.

Until they sell it, no one can ascertain the depreciation.

A one of a kind, with gullwing doors, made by Aston –

Maybe it will have appreciated.
