The 2018 Pebble Concours d’Elegance is playing host to a number of extraordinary concepts, including one from Infiniti that’s being billed as an electric vehicle concept. The description doesn’t do justice to the accompanying teaser image, which shows the concept’s cabin taken from a birds-eye-view perspective. The teaser doesn’t reveal too much, but it does show enough for us to assume that the concept could have some loose connection to the Prototype 9 Concept that Infiniti showcased last year at Pebble Beach.

The yet-to-be-named Infiniti concept is following in the footsteps of the retro-styled Prototype 9 Concept and the Q Inspiration Concept sedan. Granted, the Prototype 9 and the Q Inspiration share very little in terms of their design, but they do have one thing in common: they were created to give glimpses of Infiniti’s future in the world of electrification. It’s not a surprise, then, that this new concept is being billed the same way by no less than Infiniti Executive Design Director Karim Habib.

“Our new concept provides clues to where the Infiniti brand is heading,” he said. “For us, electrification means performance – our electrified cars will be powerful, efficient, and a joy to drive, and the new concept is a physical representation of our electrified performance future.”

Unfortunately, even the purpose of the concept doesn’t shed any light on how it looks like. The single teaser sketch provides a look at the concepts’ interior, which not only suggests that the model will have no roof, but it will also have just one dynamic back sports seat, a small, red-accented racing wheel, and a triangle-shaped intake right behind the driver’s head. The other section is bare except for the same triangle-shaped intake, and while it is hard to make out from this angle, it appears that the concept also has a Brooklands-style windshield in the vein of what other track-day racers have. This sharp shadows cutting across what looks to be the body of the concept hints at a futuristic, aggressively styled concept design.

If this concept is what we think it is, it could carry elements from both the Prototype 9 and Q Inspiration concepts, blending specific styling cues from each concept into one showcase piece. Maybe this model gives us a solid preview of what’s to come from Infiniti’s electrified lineup of models. Maybe it doesn’t do it the way we expect it to. Whatever it its, look for the concept to make some waves at the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. If anything, the Prototype 9 laid the foundation for the belief that anything’s possible when it comes to Infiniti. A year removed from that surprising debut, we’re prepared for anything when it comes to this new concept.
