TOGG is a Turkish EV startup, who are making their American debut at CES 2022, with a sleek new concept car; 'Transition Concept Smart Device.' Yes, you heard that right, DEVICE! As the brand perceives itself as a technology company rather than a traditional automaker, one couldn’t ask for a better venue than the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Transition Concept Smart Device

With a new EV brand making headlines every other week, how do you stand out from the crowd? Well, design is an aspect that will surely catch your attention and as a new EV startup, TOGG has collaborated with, Italian Design house Pininfarina, to come up with some stunning-looking cars.

Apart from this concept car, TOGG also displayed its new emblem on the prototype, which the automaker claims reflects the combination of Eastern and Western culture by forming a diamond in the center. Turkey after all lies at the crossroads of Europe and Asia.

A Bold New Exterior

Now coming to the design, this fastback sedan pulls numerous styling cues from the TOGG C-SUV and sedan concepts that debuted a few years ago. You’ve got all the elements of a modern EV, including the obligatory lightbars both front and rear.

However, the standout design feature has to be those suicide-style rear-hinged doors. Overall, this concept has a hint of Audi and Lincoln in there, which is no bad thing right. Now, TOGG did not provide technical details for their design, therefore this concept is merely a stylistic exercise expressing the brand’s design direction for its future products.

The Swanky Interior

With its independent, motorized chairs, the cabin of the Transition Concept Smart Device is designed to transport four adults in absolute comfort. Front passengers benefit from a massive screen that spans the entire width of the dashboard, similar to what we’ve already seen on cars like the Mercedes EQS and EQXX.

The Tech

The batteries used on TOGG’s electric vehicles will be manufactured in-house. Siro Silk Road Clean Energy Solutions, is a collaboration with China-based Farasis Energy is responsible for battery production.

That is predominantly going to be the main theme and focus of the TOGG brand which is on providing a holistic user-centric connected tech experience to its end users. Production models could offer anywhere between 186 miles or 300 miles of range, with a battery that can be topped up to 80% in 30 minutes. The first electric SUV from TOGG will have an EPA range of 280 miles.

When can we see them on the road?

The Turkish brand will launch its first production model, a midsize electric SUV, in late 2022, with sales beginning in the first quarter of 2023. Homologation testing is already in progress. TOGG claims that it will be the first electric SUV in its class that is not manufactured by a mainstream automaker in Europe.

Apart from this electric SUV, TOGG stated at CES that it is currently working on five new models that will enable the brand to compete in several categories. All of these will be volume models. These vehicles will be built on the same platform, with self-driving capabilities.

Conclusion

TOGG is a significant brand for Turkey as it realizes the nation's 60-year-old dream to make its own domestic car and it really shows. The company is backed by the Turkish government and plans to sell close to a million vehicles globally by 2030. Time will tell if it indeed does become a household name like Tesla.
