It sounds very funny, but in the same time is real. The letter was saying that the man bought a new Pontiac. And in their family there is this tradition: each night they eat a different flavor of ice-cream. So, the man takes his car and go to buy it. But their is a big problem: when he buys any other flavor of ice-cream his car starts, but no with the vanilla ice-cream. So, logically, his conclusion: the Pontiac is allergic to vanilla ice-cream!

Imagine that Pontiac president was very skeptical about this letter, but he sent an Engineer anyway to solve the problem.

The engineer went to the men's house for a few nights: first night they went to buy ice-cream. And they bought vanilla ice-cream, and quess what: the engine didn't start! Second night they bought chocolate ice-cream: engine starts! You have to admit this is strange! But the engineer decided there must be a logical explanation to this problem; is impossible for a car to be allergic to ice-cream! He must find the answer!

And he did, after a few more weeks of research! The problem wan't the flavor, it was the time needed to buy the ice-cream. Vanilla ice-cream is a very popular flavor, so it takes less to buy it. This is why the engine was still too hot for the vapor lock to dissipate. All the other flavors were kept in the back of the store at a different counter where it took considerably longer to check out the flavor.
