• Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Is Damn Impressive on the Nürburgring

A lot faster than the standard GT4 and is rumored to possess a 500 HP engine.

It is no secret that a new 718 Cayman GT4 is being thoroughly tested before its November debut. It’s the top-tier RS variant that has been caught numerous times by spy photographers, and now, Porsche has announced that it is 24 seconds faster than the standard GT4 around the 12.9-mile Nürburgring circuit.

How Different Does The New 718 Cayman GT4 RS Look From the Standard GT4?

By the unveiled pictures, it is clear that the GT4 RS looks like a son of the devil. The blacked-out paint scheme along with a lot of creases, vents, a new diffuser, and a big rear spoiler make it look one of the most aggressive Porsches. But by the looks of it, the GT4 RS is meaner than the standard GT4. For running the Nurburgring lap, it was fitted with a set of Michelin Pilot Sports Cup 2 R, which Porsche says will come as an option.

Andreas Preuninger, the Director of the GT Model Line stated that

“during development, we gave the 718 Cayman GT4 RS everything that characteristics a genuine RS: lightweight construction, more downforce, more power, and, of course, an even higher level of responsiveness and feedback to driver inputs."

Other noticeable elements in the photos are the big brake rotors which will possibly be carbon ceramics and a more focused presence with a lot lower ground clearance.

How Fast is the 718 Cayman GT4 RS Around the Nürburgring?

Well, it is the first RS sports car in the 718 line up and in that case, you can expect the performance to be breathtaking with Porche’s typical out-of-this-world handling finesse.

The regular 718 Cayman GT4 with its 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine did complete the Nurburgring lap in 7:28.111 minutes. The upcoming RS completes the 12.9 miles lap in 7:04.511 minutes, making it 23.6 seconds faster than the standard GT4.

The world-renowned driver Jorg Bergmeister quoted that, “the 718 Cayman GT4 RS is an uncompromised driving machine. It feels as nimble as a go-kart on mountain roads, yet is impressively stable and well-balanced on the racetrack. Otherwise, such a lap time wouldn’t even be possible.” And he might be right because he also mentioned how the GT4 RS could be one of the sharpest cars Porsche has ever developed and how fruitful the exhaust note gets ringing higher up in the rev range.

Given the timing stats, the RS might be as powerful as the 911 GT3 which puts out over 500 HP, or maybe a slightly tuned-down version of the engine will make its way to the RS. We will get back to you once we get every detail of the new 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS.
