The German sports car builder, Porsche, unveiled a green version of their popular SUV, the Cayenne Hybrid back in 2007. However the scheduled release of the production vehicle is still about a year away. The German newspaper Rheinische Post has reported that, Porsche board member Wolfgang Dürheimer revealed that the Porsche Cayenne SUV will hit showrooms in the second half of 2010 and will be priced at a heafty $124,500.

The Porsche Cayenne Hybrid SUV will be powered by an Audi-sourced 3.0 Liter V6 power plant, with the gas engine making 333 HP and 324 lb-ft of torque and the electric motor contributing another 52 HP and 221 lb-ft of torque to get the Cayenne moving in a more environmentally friendly manner.

Just because the Cayenne is a hybrid doesn’t mean that it is a slouch. The gas/electric power train combination allows the Porsche hybrid to sprint from the 0 to 60 MPH in only 6.8 seconds while averaging about 32 MPG when cruising on the highway, that is an entire 10 MPG better than the traditional V6 powered SUV from Porsche.
