• Porsche Delivers More Than 200k Vehicles In One Year For The First Time Ever

Porsche had a really successful sales year in 2015 as for the first time in its illustrious history, it has sold over 200,000 vehicles in a single year. In the first 11 months of 2015, the German automaker has delivered 209,894 cars all over the world. That number easily surpasses the previous record it set in 2014 when it made a total of 189,849 deliveries globally. What’s even more impressive is that Porsche broke the 200,000-sales barrier with one month left (December) to spare in the calendar year.

Porsche’s sales volume grew 24 percent in the first 11 months of 2015 compared to the same time period in 2014. As expected, Europe remains the biggest market for the German automaker, accounting for 70,509 sold units from January to November 2015. That’s 30 percent better than its sales figure in the same time last year. The carmaker’s home country of Germany remains one of its biggest markets with 26,992 sold units. Only China with 54,302 units and the US with 47,819 units sold more Porsche models in the first 11 months of the year.

Of all its models, the Cayenne remains the most preferred vehicle in the Porsche lineup. In the first 11 months of the year, the popular SUV has accounted for 68,029 models, 14 percent better than its numbers in the same time period in 2014. More importantly, sales of the Cayenne represents almost a third (32 percent) of the company’s entire sales volume. Extrapolating the total sales numbers with projections for December 2015, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Porsche sell over 230,000 units for the entire year.

Why it matters

Considering how important it is for automakers to post healthy sales numbers, Porsche breaking 200,000 sold units in a single year with one month left in the calendar is a huge accomplishment. Actually, it’s not even huge. It’s monumental. It’s the kind of stamp of approval every automaker desires. As good as a company is in developing cars and accompanying it with revolutionary technology, none of it is going to matter if people don’t end up buying these cars.

Porsche has found a way to combine all of these things and still make their models attractive to customers. It’s a testament to the work being put in by everybody in company to make this possible. Detlev von Platen, Member of the Executive Board – Sales and Marketing of Porsche AG, even hinted that bigger and better things are coming from the German automaker now that its sales volume is “well ahead of schedule.”

That’s another sign that Porsche is quickly becoming one of the most popular brands in the world, if it isn’t there already. There’s certainly no denying that the future is bright over there in Stuttgart. The challenge now is to be able to sustain this incredible momentum in the years to follow. It’s going to be a tough act to replicate selling over 200,000 units in a year. But, if Porsche continues down this path, 200,000 might end up becoming a conservative benchmark.

Thus, for the first time in the history of the company, Porsche has handed over to customers more than 200,000 vehicles. Last year, the Stuttgart-based sports car maker set a record with a total of 189,849 deliveries globally. “With more than 200,000 Porsche models delivered, we have reached a milestone of our strategy 2018 well ahead of schedule”, underscores Detlev von Platen, Member of the Executive Board – Sales and Marketing of Porsche AG, thanking the employees: “Porsche employees worldwide have joined forces to contribute to making this success possible. In November, Porsche delivered a total of 18,110 new cars. The Cayenne is the clear growth driver here: with 6,579 vehicles delivered in November 2015, the delivery volumes rose 39% compared to the same period last year. The Cayenne has also been a best seller in the period of January to November 2015. 68,029 models (an increase of 14 percent) were handed over to customers all over the world.

The strongest single market during the period of January to November 2015 was China: Porsche delivered 54,302 cars there. This corresponds to an increase of 34 percent. Right behind it was the United States, with 47,819 vehicles delivered (a 9 percent increase). The European market grew by 30 percent to 70,509 units sold.
