There is a new man taking control at Porsche->ke1 and he has some big plans for the company. Matthias Mueller is going to have a lot of work to do at the German sports car company.

Mueller will take over on October 1, and his first order of business will be an entry-level model. Porsche’s entry-level vehicles aren’t selling well, in fact, sales are down 12 percent in the nine months through April for the Boxster and Cayman->ke5. Porsche has even tried a convertible version of the Boxster, called the Boxster Spyder->ke570, but with a price of $66,900, it’s not exactly entry level.

If the company wants to raise its sales from 100,000 to 150,000 in 2013 they are going to need to double the number of models available. The automaker may add another entry-level model below the Boxster, as well as a small SUV.

"We have to make progress with Porsche. Mueller is the right person to deliver it," said VW Group CEO Martin Winterkorn at a press event earlier this week.

It seems Porsche doesn’t want to be taken seriously as a performance car manufacturer anymore. Instead, they want to be a more expensive version of Volkswagen->ke94. Three entry-level sports cars, a sedan, two SUVs, and the 911->ke282. Maybe we will get an entry level four-door sometime in the future, or maybe even a minivan.
