The 2019 Porsche Pajun, which Porsche->ke1 will position it as a sort of Panamera->ke1840 Junior, has been circulating the rumor mill for quite some time now. Now, a new report out of France is claiming that the Pajun Concept->ke169 will debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show->ke235 in September, but not with the drivetrain most enthusiasts would expect.

According to the report, the Pajun will arrive boasting an electric drivetrain that will show the direction Porsche is looking to take in the future. While rumors of an electric Pajun have been circulating, it is odd to debut the concept in this format when it will likely hit production several years after the traditional models. The reasoning for the delay is that Porsche CEO, Matthias Mueller, has said before the battery technology just isn’t where Porsche and its customer base want it.

What’s more, debuting the Pajun Concept as an electric car->ke1030 could send Porsche’s sensitive fan base into a frenzy. Porsche fans are not overly fond of change, and this was evident when the Panamera debuted, sending some of the brand’s fans into panic attacks. Then again, maybe with the insane success of the 2014 Porsche 918 Spyder, and the profits that the Cayenne->ke212 and Panamera pull in, Porsche buyers are opening up to the idea that their favorite brand may actually know what it’s doing…

Either way, we’ll keep an eye on this report and let you know if more solid confirmation becomes available.

Why it matters

Porsche has gotten weird as of late, as it’s moved from an exclusive sports car manufacturer to almost just an upscale full-fledged automaker. With models like the Panamera, Macan,->ke4210 and Cayenne mucking up its lineup, it’s hard to remember what Porsche once was.

With that said, however, I do realize that Porsche is simply trying to develop profitable cars that allow it to produce supreme four-wheel beasts like the 918,->ke3629 the 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4, and the 2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder.

It’s almost a necessary evil in today’s automotive world to cater to the masses a bit to help draw interest or pad profits, and this is why we’re seeing cars like the Porsche Panamera, the BMW 1 Series,->ke313 the Maserati Ghibli,->ke4598 and the Jaguar XE.->ke3138

What is awesome about this rumored launch is that it shows that Porsche has huge plans for the Pajun, or whatever Porsche officially names it. It shows that this smaller sedan will give buyers the option of gasoline or electric, which opens the brand up to new buyers that would otherwise never consider Porsche as an option.

The future continues to look bright for Porsche, and I have a feeling that the Pajun will only add to the brightness.
