Porsche purists balked when their beloved sports car company began building SUVs. “Oh, the Cayenne will drive like a boat,” sang the collective cry. Well, now those purists can truly say Porsche’s latest product will drive like a boat – only they’ll be begging their bankers to find $16 million as they slip on a nautical-theme pashmina afghan and flippy floppies. Porsche has built a yacht.

Okay, so technically it was Porsche’s design arm, Studio F.A., which collaborated with the yachtbuilder Dynamiq to build a Porsche-inspired superyacht called the Dynamiq GTT 115. The Porsche-styled inspiration includes houndstooth patterns throughout the cabin, the GTT 115 lettering along the hull, and the vertical lines on the ship’s T-top above the upper deck recall those accenting the 911 Targa’s B-pillar. Studio F.A. goes so far as to say the GTT 115 even shares the 911’s lines and proportions. That’s more than a stretch, but what else do you expect from PR buzz?

Not surprisingly, Porsche picked a solid yachtbuilder to associate with. Dynamiq is known for its aluminum hulls and advanced designs. The GTT 115 is no exception. Hinted by its name, the superyacht is 115 feet long. It’s also 23 feet wide and takes slightly less than five feet of water to float. There’s room for at least 12 people to sleep, depending on how the customers configure their cabin. And speaking of customers, there will only be seven. Yep, Dynamiq and Studio F.A. are limiting their collaboration to seven yachts, each with a price tag of $16,7 million. While that’s not surprising, the GTT 115’s powertrain might be. Keep reading for that.

Big Yacht – Big Power

No, the GTT 115 isn’t powered by a bevy of 4.8-liter twin-turbo V-8s borrowed from the Cayenne Turbo S. Rather, Dynamiq contracts with MAN, a purveyor of big-rigs and heavy-duty trucks in Europe and other parts of the world. The GTT 115 has two MAN V-12 turbodiesels generating a whopping 1,650 horsepower each for a total of 3,300 horsepower.

What’s more, the GTT 115 is a hybrid. The turbodiesels power three, variable-speed generators than then power electric pods at the stern. Each pod has two propellers, as well, giving it maximum bite at the water. Bow thrusters allow the GTT 115 better maneuverability when docking and navigating tight harbors.

Combined, the turbodiesels and electric motors have enough power to heave the massive yacht to 21 knots, or 24 mph. The fuel tanks hold 6,340 gallons of diesel, giving the GTT 115 a cruising range of 3,400 nautical miles at 10 knots. That’s enough fuel for a transatlantic trip from New York to England.

So, if you find yourself with an extra $16 million sitting around and fancy yourself a new superyacht, be sure not to miss the Monaco Yacht Show happening this week. I’m sure your private jet can have you there before the show starts. If not, perhaps you can contact Dynamiq directly at its website.
