The Taycan is still under development, popping up here and there as it undergoes real-world testing in camouflaged form.
That makes this recent social post and 0-to-60 mph confirmation pretty important, as it means the car is nearing completion.
A time of 3.5 seconds in the benchmark acceleration test is quick, no doubt about it. Of course, it’s not as quick as the Tesla Model S, which manages the same feat in 2.5 seconds when equipped with the P100D powertrain option.
That said, 3.5 seconds is roughly the same time you’d get with the Dodge Charger Hellcat SRT, which is pretty impressive, all things considered. What’s more, we expect the Porsche to be a bit lighter and handle more sharply than the bruiser Tesla.
To help it get up to speed, the Taycan will come with a duo of electric motors, which will combine to dole out as much as 600 horsepower. Top speed will clock in at 155 mph, while range per charge will eclipse the 300-mile mark.
Styling-wise, the Taycan will draw from the Porsche Panamera and 918 Spyder, with exterior dimensions that slot in just above the 911. Also expect adaptive aero to help it stick at speed, and adaptive suspension to keep it shiny side up. Inside, the Porsche EV should come brimming with high-end materials and tech.
Pre-orders are underway now, with Porsche taking deposits to secure a spot in line. Pricing is expected to slot around $85,000 for the base model.
