Another day, another world record was set by the Porsche Taycan. Just recently, the Taycan Cross Turismo set the world record for being the first electric vehicle (EV) to climb an altitude difference of three miles in one day. This time, a standard Taycan has set the shortest total time spent charging on a cross-country trip.

Okay, so this world record isn't as pointless as the Taycan doing the world's longest drift for an EV, or achieving the fastest indoor speed. Charging times and range are the biggest concerns for EV buyers, after all.

The trip had a total distance of 2,834.5 miles, and it was achieved by Wayne Gerdes. The record-breaking drive was done with the standard Taycan equipped with the Performance Battery Plus option.

To certify the record, Gerdes needed to take note of every stop. In addition, a random, independent witness was needed at every charging station. The entire travel duration was filmed, and this is in conjunction with a GPS tracking device to record every single mile of the journey.

The data was then presented to the Guinness World Record's panel of adjudicators, confirming that the previous record was shattered in flying colors. The Porsche Taycan had a total charging time of just 2 hours, 26 minutes, 48 seconds, which is nearly three times faster than the previous record of 7 hours, 10 minutes, and one second.

If you want to achieve the same feat, it's good to know that the tactics used are realistic and achievable. Gerdes plotted his route via the Plug Share and Electrify America app to find the fastest public charging stations available.

The Porsche Taycan that Gerdes use isn't just a standard without any options ticked. To make the coast-to-coast trip more enjoyable, his Taycan was equipped with the Premium Package, adaptive cruise control, and Porsche Electric Sport Sound.

On completing the record-breaking journey, Gerdes commented:
