The Porsche Taycan is at the forefront of Porsche’s expansion and potential transition towards electricity. And while I say this word with a bit of disaffection, there’s no denying that the Taycan, in all its forms – currently 14 of them - is a very capable, high-performance EV. Moreover, with the newly-introduced Taycan Sport Turismo, Porsche may have created the ultimate, practical, high-performance EV.

Porsche’s latest addition to the Taycan lineup is aimed at those who want the practicality of the Taycan Cross Turismo but with more emphasis on on-road driving. The Taycan Cross Turismo is advertised as a model that can handle mild off-road conditions, with a specially-tuned air suspension, all-wheel drive, and a more rugged body kit.

The Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo will feature a full lineup of five vehicles, from spring 2022

The base Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo is going to share the electric powertrain of the base Taycan. This means 408 horsepower (300 kilowatts) or 476 horsepower (350 kilowatts) with the performance battery, which are sent to the rear wheels and will allow for a 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 5.2 and 5.0 seconds, respectively.

Meanwhile, combined electric consumption is 24.2 - 20.2 kWh/100 km (WLTP) and 26.8 kWh/100 km (NEDC) for the base version, or 24.6 - 21.0 kWh/100 km (WLTP) and 27.4 kWh/100 km, with performance battery. The range is expected to be similar to that of the base Taycan – 225 to 282 miles (362 – 454 km), depending on which battery you get.

Porsche Taycan 4S Sport Turismo adds all-wheel drive and more power – 530 horsepower (390 kilowatts) or 571 horsepower (420 kilowatts) with Performance Battery Plus. Expect a 0-60 mph (97 km/h) time of around 3.8 – 3.9 seconds and a maximum range of 227 to 272 miles (365 – 438 km).

Average consumption for the 4S Sport Turismo is 24.6 - 20.4 kWh/100 km (WLTP) or 25.8 kWh/100 km with the standard battery, or 24.7 - 21.0 kWh/100 km (WLTP) and 26.1 kWh/100 km (NEDC) with the performance battery.

Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo} is the first version to be unveiled. The GTS trim has always signified the sweet spot in Porsche models, and this one is not an exception. It brings even more power – 590 horsepower (440 kilowatts), which is enough for a 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) sprint in 3.5 seconds. The GTS Sport Turismo will debut end of February 2022, while the rest of the lineup is going to follow in mid-March.

Combined electricity consumption is rated at 24.1 – 21.0 kWh/100 km (WLTP) and 26.0 kWh/100 km (NEDC). We also have a price for the Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo, which starts from $133,300 - $1,900 premium over the sedan version.

Porsche Taycan Turbo Sport Turismo takes the power up to 680 horsepower (500 kilowatts), which is enough for a 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) sprint in 3.1 seconds. The maximum range is 202 miles (325 km) with an average consumption of 24.2 - 20.9 kWh/100 km (WLTP) or 26.3 kWh/100 km (NEDC).

Porsche Taycan Turbo S Sport Turismo} sits at the top of the lineup with 761 horsepower (560 kilowatts), which is enough for a 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) time of 2.8 seconds and a to pspeed of 161 mph (260 km/h). Average electric power consumption is rated at 24.0 - 22.5 kWh/100 km (WLTP) and 26.3 kWh/100 km (NEDC). At this point, only the GTS Sport Turismo has a listed price, but the range-topping Taycan Turbo S Sport Turismo is expected to start at just over $186,000.

Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo combines the Taycan’s on-road dynamics with Cross-Turismo’s practicality

The Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo is a lowered Taycan Cross Turismo with a more road-oriented setting. It is, essentially, the more practical Taycan. The shooting brake body style provides over 45 mm (1.8 inches) of additional headroom at the back, an additional 9.0 mm (0.35 inches) of headroom over the driver’s seat, and a more usable cargo area. Depending on how you spec your Taycan Sport Turismo you get a cargo space of up to 446 liters (15.75 cubic feet) or up to 1,212 liters (42.8 cubic feet).

More importantly, like the Cross Turismo, the Sport Turismo has a tailgate opening that’s much larger than that of the sedan – 801 mm (31.5 inches) versus 434 mm (17.1 inches) long and 543 mm (21.4 inches) versus 330 mm (13.0 inches) high. Like all versions of the Porsche Taycan, the Sport Turismo also has an additional 84 liters 2.97 (cubic feet) at the front.

As for the rest of the interior, the Taycan Sport Turismo offers the well-known highly-finished, high-tech interior from other Taycan models, with a few upgrades. 2022 Taycan models will benefit from improved connectivity options - both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are now integrated into the Porsche Communication Management (PCM). There's also an improved charging planner in order to avoid short charging stops and an improved voice assistant, in addition to the latest in comfort and safety features.

Final Thoughts

Some might say that, with so many versions of Porsche’s first modern-day EV, the Taycan lineup has become diluted. With that being said, high-performance EVs with daily usability in mind are becoming increasingly common, and the Taycan Sport Turismo perfectly fills in the gap between the road-oriented Porsche Taycan sedan and the more SUV-inspired Taycan Cross Turismo. Prices for all models are will be announced around mid-March when the entire Taycan Sport Turismo lineup will be launched, but prices are expected to be between those of the Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo.
