Power Wheels F-150 Put to the Test: Video
That “Built Ford Tough” slogan appears to extend to anything with a Ford badge slapped on it. The folks at Power Wheels decided to put their new F-150-styled truck to the ultimate torture test by setting a real 4,120-pound F-150 down on the kids’ toy. Guess this mean no more screaming at the “big kids” for playing with little Johnny’s Christmas gift.
The video shows just how the operation went down. A tire carrier system was welded together, forming a cradle for the real F-150’s tires while the miniature truck supported the weight on its plastic body.
Amazingly the four Power Wheels F-150s held the entire weight of the Ford truck without so much as a crack. What’s more, the Power Wheels representative then took one for a joy ride – and he’s no small guy.
This just goes to show that Power Wheels must have really poured some R&D time and money into their product just as Ford did the F-150. Now I just want to go for a ride in the Power Wheels like I did as a kid.
The Ford F-150 is basically all-new for the 2015 model year. A couple carryover engines are all that remains of the previous generation. Ford has reworked the exterior to be more bold, the interior to be more comfortable, and the powertrains to be more efficient. Perhaps the biggest headline coming from the F-150 is its pervasive use of high-strength aluminum in the body.
Power comes from the several engine options: the base V-6; the new, 2.7-liter, EcoBoost V-6; the mighty 5.0-liter V-8; and the 3.5-liter, EcoBoost V-6.
Pricing start at $26,615 for the base truck and can exceed $55,000 with all the options on the top-level Platinum trim package.
