The Drag Racing and Car Stuff Channel put out yet another super video over the weekend, where a RAM 1500 TRX took on an A90 Supra over the ¼ Mile. Now, as usual, I can't really confirm the exact specs, but as with anything that hits the drag strip, it's unlikely that the two contenders we have here are stock. Regardless, we’ll look at the baseline figures so that we can at least have a datum to work off of.

RAM 1500 TRX

In the blue corner, we have the most extreme version of the RAM 1500 pickup, the TRX. This beast that is designed to be mega off-road has one hell of an engine in the form of a 6.2 Liter HEMI V-8 that produces 702 ponies and 650 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Those are some big numbers but given that this is a full-size truck and weighs 6350 pounds, it really does need that kind of power to shift the way it does.

Toyota Supra A90

Now coming to the red corner, we have what looks like a pretty stock-looking A90 Supra, barring that giant wing and some fancy rims, that are probably on some sticky rubber. The base car features a BMW sourced 3.0-liter inline turbo six that churns out 335 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque. The Supra also employs an eight-speed automatic gearbox, but only sends its power to the rear wheels. It tips the scales at 3397 pounds.

So nearly half the power as opposed to the truck, but also half the weight. Rear-wheel drive versus all-wheel drive, this should be close.

The Race

Having reviewed the numbers, (sort of) and burnouts done, both vehicles line up at the Christmas lights. The lights go out and it looked as though the driver in the Supra gave the TRX the hit. If not, his reaction time was pretty poor, as the truck pretty much took off as the lights turned green.

After what seemed like an eternity, at least in drag racing terms, the A90 was finally underway. Despite the slow start, the Toyota just managed to get past the TRX 50 feet from the traps. Speaking of traps, the RAM punched in a time of 12.32 seconds at 109.29 mph, while the Supra managed 11.70 seconds at 120.26 mph. According to a comment on the video, the driver in the RAM had a reaction time of 0.013 as opposed to the Supra’s at 0.500.

Final Thoughts

Okay so the Supra won, but many, and this includes Toyota fanboys’ don’t really regard the A90 as a true Supra. One person in the comments section went as far as to call it a BMW Supra. But hey, the A90 is capable of getting around the Nürburgring in 7:40, which is a blisteringly quick time.

Rumour has it that Toyota is working on a manual Supra, which is something that I’m looking forward to for sure. As far as the TRX is concerned, the physics-defying performance still boggles my mind and boy does it sound fantastic. It's big, it's brash, it's in your face, and can easily keep up with some pretty serious sports cars like we just saw with this Supra. Do you know the exact specs for either of these two? Do let us know in the comments below.
