The merger between FCA and PSA came to light in 2019 when both the groups announced their holy matrimony. A lot of regrouping was expected at this point and there were hushed talks about some brands receiving the ax doing rounds. The new group, called Stellantis, ended up retaining them, but as it turns out, one major brand is getting banished from the kingdom, and it’s none other than the pickup truck manufacturer, Ram.

What’s All The Fuss About?

The confirmation comes from Marcello Scherzo, Head of Brand Management and Development for Stellantis. He said, “Stellantis strives to uphold the values of both FCA and PSA. We are the fourth-largest automaker by volume right now and third by revenue. While the sale of Ram will take a hit on our sales volume, we want to focus on revenue generation over volume for the foreseeable future.”

Although this news comes out of the blue, you can see the reasoning behind it. Ford and GM both seem to have ample experience in electrification now and we will be seeing electric trucks from both the brands soon, but there’s no news from Ram on this front. With the alliance between the two groups, the focus seems to have moved away from Ram.

The fact that PSA’s CEO, Carlos Tavares, was given the reigns to head the merger for the first five years didn’t do the FCA-brand any favors either. Currently, Stellantis has 14 brands under its umbrella, eight from FCA and five from PSA, along with Mopar. Perhaps, the reason for Ram to be on the receiving end was to reduce the burden from the FCA portion of the merger.

What comes as a major surprise is that Ram is actually not doing any bad numbers. Ram’s sales rose by three-percent last year and the 1500 pickup truck even outsold the Chevy Silverado. Other than the Jeep Gladiator, the brand doesn’t have any pickup truck in its portfolio now. The Ram TRX created a furor and was welcomed warmly by enthusiasts and purists. Throwing Ram under the bus just to reduce the load seems like a horrible move, honestly.

Conclusion

There’s not much one can do about this, but you can sure look back at how you wasted the last five minutes of your life reading this. Confused? See the date, guys! Bazinga!
