Do you remember the Concept #1 Smart unveiled at the 2021 IAA Munich auto show? It was, in fact, a preview version of the first battery-electric subcompact crossover SUV built by the new Smart Automobile - a company that now is a 50:50 joint venture between Daimler and Geely.

A few weeks ago Smart revealed its own official spy shots for the future #1 electric SUV, but today, a first prototype was also caught testing in Europe on public roads.

The model will be based on the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) electric vehicle platform developed by Geely and be the same size as the Mini Countryman.

The #1 will also take a step away from the usual Smart design and will adopt a more stylish SUV look. The first images reveal narrow headlights featuring a thin LED light strip and the car's Active Grille Shutter (AGS) offered as standard.

Also, as Smart announced, the #1 will be offered with "concealed door handles and a highly effective aerodynamics package that will contribute to elevating aerodynamic performance. Wind resistance and noise have been significantly optimized, contributing to greater energy efficiency, comfort and driving range. "

When it comes to its powertrain, Smart only announced the model will be offered with a robust ESP system supported by Bosch and an all-electric powertrain. The model will also combine "outstanding driving comfort, handling stability, acceleration, and braking performance."

Rumors suggest that the next Smart #1 will have a range of up to 430 miles - a number that will make it really competitive on the market.

The new Smart #1 will have its official debut on April 7, 2022 with the first deliveries expected in December 2022.
