After many teasers, spy shots, and racetrack runs, the all-new Civic Type R will launch by the end of June or in the first week of July. Yet, surprisingly, Honda has been keeping quiet about its best hot hatch of all time. But given the massive fanbase of the Civic Type R, it has been the subject of many renderings, like this rendering from UNESS DESIGN of the 2023 Type R model. At best, this is what the new Civic Type R will look like when launched in the summer of 2022.

The 11th-gen Civic, when launched, was not the best-looking iteration. The outgoing model had a better front face design that we couldn’t agree with the new-gen model. However, the Type R variants have always stayed a bit different from the standard Civics, and the upcoming model will be no different. The front will sport the same LED headlights from the current Civic. However, the aggressive front bumper design made the Civic Type R rendering look good. The artist has studied the camouflaged prototype very carefully. What you see is possibly the best rendering of the upcoming Type R.

The 18-inch blacked-out wheels, with Michelin rubbers look the same as the prototype, and so are the red calipers. However, since it is a hatchback, the trunk is shorter than the standard Civic. In addition, a set of sleek C-shaped taillights complement the rear fascia, along with tri-exhaust tips at the lower center and a wing mounted on the roof end. The exhaust positioning reminds us of the newly launched hot hatch from Toyota, the GR Corolla.

Previously leaked, the upcoming Civic Type R’s interior will sport bucket seats, like the outgoing model year. But the dashboard design will not see any changes from the 2022 Civic. That means honeycomb-mesh vents, a nine-inch touchscreen display, and a seven-inch MID will also be part of the Type R.

As for the powertrain, there will be a tuned version of the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-pot from the outgoing generation. However, expect a decent power bump to at least 310 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque. In addition, a six-speed manual transmission with a front-wheel-drive configuration will be the only offering at launch.

We hope that the 2023 Civic Type R will be fast, more approachable, and hold a better price tag than the Volkswagen Golf R and the Toyota GR Corolla. If you are already a fan of the renderings, follow UNESS DESIGN’s Behance profile and support him.
