Report: A 2020 BMW M8 Competition is Definitely in the Works

At a specially organized event for BMW customers in Paris, the Munich-based company revealed its plans. We will have the BMW M8 Competition. The event hosted a presentation of the designs for its new models and gave a sneak peek at the most amazing things VIP BMW customers will be able to buy soon.

Of course, phones, cameras (and I believe proficient painters) weren’t allowed. Regardless of this, BMW Blog revealed a few tidbits about the news revealed there, and the M8 Competition is one big piece of that news.

BMW fans (which I am one of) can rejoice. We are in for a couple of incredible years as BMW reinvented the 8 Series and is about to churn out numerous versions. The M8 Competition will be among them. That is like the M8, only on cocaine. So, cruel, smart, and deadly.

What Will Powered the BMW M8 Competition?

I have to be reasonable here. The bonnet of the BMW M5 Competition hides a 4.4-liter, TwinPower, V-8. With 620 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque, this engine (in its many iterations) is actually the backbone of the whole large BMW M family. All large Motorsport cars feature it in one configuration or another. It is safe to assume that the M8, as well as the M8 Competition, will get it too. . 650 horsepower is probably the limit as some time ago BMW M officials were quite clear - “a lot more than 600 horsepower is unnecessary.” The M8 Competition, as the flagship of the whole brand, may carry the most powerful iteration.

What's the Difference Between the BMW M8 and the BMW M8 Competition!

As is the case with other Motorsport Competition cars within BMW stardom, the M8 Competition will differ in a few key areas from the M8. A bit harder dampers and springs should be in the cards as well. Complementing the suspension changes, Motorsport will probably limit the luxuries inside. I mean, let’s get real - the M8 Competition will be a luxury car, but some of the insulation may go bye, bye. Some metal body panels may be exchanged for carbon fiber ones, and some weight may be saved through the installation of some neater brakes and crazy magnesium wheels. This is not cheating, mind you. BMW could save up to 50-70 lbs by just installing super expensive, super light wheels, brakes and a carbon roof.

In this regard, the slightly lightened M8, with a lower center of gravity, a more powerful engine, a stiffer suspension, and better brakes could do much more than the regular M8. DBS Superleggera good? Not quite, but (I believe) Bentley Continental GT Speed good!

Not that I am comparing a Beemer with a Bentley, but I'm just saying that maybe you should explore both options before making a purchasing decision.

How Fast Is The BMW M8 Competition?

Right now, BMW produces the exceptional M850i xDrive Coupe. This thing, which isn’t the snappiest 8 that will be, can reproduce performance reserved for a generation or so old supercars.

Now, the BMW M5 Competition is fast and quick. It will get the 60-mph job done in 3.3 seconds. It will take 10.8 seconds for the 124-mph job. That’s quick. The M8 Competition has to be quicker and faster (I reckon it will not be restricted to 155 mph). Nevertheless, expecting sub-3 seconds to 62 mph from the M8 Competition isn’t unreasonable. It’s actually possible.

Conclusion

As the BMW flagship, and BMW Motorsport flagship, the M8 Competition will bring a host of upgrades of the M850i, the M8, and every other version. BMW already marketed the new 8 Series as a track-focused, mean BMW. The M8 Competition has to be extreme in such ideology. I am quite sure it will become something many will refer to as the best BMW of all time.
