We’re trying to gather up some of the roads less traveled in America as part of our Road Trip series and in doing so, have pieced together this little seven hour road trip near Los Angeles, California. This long and twisty trip starts off at Placerita Canyon Road and takes the traveler through a series of roads that offer many activities to entertain along the way before ending at East Sierra Madre Avenue.

Right off the bat, road trip attendees can capture the scenery of the western San Gabriel Mountains off of Placerita Canyon Rd. About two miles from Placerita Canyon Road’s intersection with California State Route 14, travelers can head up to Disney’s Golden Oak Ranch to check out the location used by the film industry for many shows and movies such as Independence Day, The X-Files, CSI, My Name is Earl, Entourage, Boston Legal, Bones, Sons of Anarchy, and American Idol.

Hit the jump to check out what else can be found during this little California getaway.

Tujunga Canyon Rd

Motorcycle enthusiasts will enjoy cruising down the next road on our trip thanks to the 18 miles worth of curves on Little Tujunga Canyon Road. Laid out among the beautiful San Gabriel Mountains, this road isn’t exactly the less traveled as it is visited by many motorcyclists ever year.

Mount Wilson

The next interesting stop on this trip is Mt Wilson Circle Road where travelers can take advantage of the 10.5 mile loop from the top of Mount Wilson to two trail camps along the East Fork of the San Gabriel River. Whether the group would like to hike along the more dangerous trials or the more scenic route, this stop makes for a strenuous all day event or a more moderate overnight visit. Travelers can also take advantage of the seasonal streams and rivers or just sit back and soak in the glorious forested view.

Big Bear Lake

The most traveled stop on this list is the East Big Bear Blvd that can take you to Big Bear Lake for some fantastic skiing on Bear Mountain and Snow Summit. Take this trip during the less snowy parts of the calendar and vacationers can still find much to do in the San Bernardino Mountains. Take advantage of the scenery while biking, boating, hiking, parasailing, horseback riding, and tons more. There won’t be a dull moment, unless of course travelers want to sit back and relax in one of the many bear-themed lodges.

Mt Baldy

One of the final roads on our trip is Mt. Baldy Road. Take this trip during the snowy season and take advantage of some amazing skiing opportunities. This location has 26 runs spanning three mountains covering 800 acres with 2,100 vertical feet. Go full force in skiing, snow boarding, tubing, snow play, and scenic chair rides. If snow isn’t your thing then have some fun hiking, biking, and going along some scenic rides.

Well, I don’t think that the traveler needs a high speed vehicle just to reach the location. I guess it would be better to choose an electric car here. BTW, it seems that there are lots of activities that can be done in this place aside from hiking.

Nice idea! But I don’t want any mountain adventure. I’m not residing in LA, so I wonder if there’s any beach near by:-P

I guess this is perfect place to experience the fun driving and awesome vacation as well. The place seems interesting and a good summer getaway!

I was actually able to go to some of these places during the start of summer, and I really enjoyed the whole trip. I like it so much that I am now planning to go on a longer vacation there.

Yeah, it would be actually better if you would be bringing in an off roader if you are traveling these countryside routes. They will be much more suited to it.

Those long twisty and dusty roads are indeed a less choice for me. It gives a tough drive for a car. But if you have the guts and thrill of adventure, then drive for it.

Hey, it would really be a good idea if you had mentioned some of the vcamping sites around the area. That place actually has plenty of good ones, and a lot of folks would really like to get that info.

Good thing that you have included the maps for this place. I live in Los Angeles but am not that well familiar with this region. Hopefully, I can make a trip here this weekend.

Yeah, I think there have been a lot of movies that have been shot here. And for good reasons too. Just take a look at those views, they’re picture perfect.

Well now, this is something that is actually quite near to where I live. Though I must admit that I am not really all that familiar with the place.
