The automotive industry has been sprinkled with a number of supercars from rather unlikely countries in the recent months. Samplings from Sweden, Denmark,Spain, and even Poland are popping up to give the major supercar manufacturers a run for their money. Now, it’s rumored that we may be adding Hyundai to the mix as well. The South Korean automaker is rumored to be working on a new supercar that will take on models like the Corvette Z06, the Nissan GT-R, and the Porsche 911.

If produced, the new model could be a sports coupe powered by the company’s new all-aluminum Tao 5.0-liter V8 engine. The choice for transmission is still up in the air, but due to the car’s excessive weight, it would be a rear wheel drive model. Since it will be placed above the Genesis R-Spec Coupe, expect the new supercar to deliver more than 429 HP and 376 lbs-ft of torque.

Hyundai’s new supercar will deliver the same luxury options as the Equus sedan, including an iPad owners manual and pick-up and delivery service when the car needs servicing.

Of course, this is all just a rumor at this time. When asked about the future supercar, Hyundai CEO John Krafcik said there is no supercar in the works. In fact he replied, "No, no," and called the rumor "scurrilous nonsense." Anyone recall how many vehicles were born out of an outright denial?

If that’s the case, I wanted to see first the new model they were talking about. It’s a good thing that Hyundai will now join the creation of super cars if ever but that is some kind of impossible because the CEO of Hyundai told that it is really a rumor only.

If its true, I think Hyundai would take an extra time to create a model that can compete with Chevy’s Corvette. Hope to see more updates from this issue.

Talked to a rep at the auto show when they were in town, who basically said in order to put the v8 in the coupe would be the thing to do-except it would be a nose heavy after that to the point of over a 60% front distribution of weight.
I might think he would be right with that amount of weight that far forward!

I rather first see Hyundai put the 429 hp all- aluminum Tao 5.0-liter V8 engine in the genesis coupe with a 8 speed automatic and 8 speed Manuel transmissions first. A affordable halo car is just as great if not better then a unaffordable halo car But , for the fun of it, if Hyundai did make a super car and they used the all-aluminum Tao 5.0-liter V8 engine and changed it too a all-aluminum Tao 6.7-liter V8 engine it would make around 575 hp 504 lb ft tq . Add a twin turbo to it and IDK maybe add anther 100 hp and 50 lb ft tq? It would be a z06 killer . It would be kool to see Hyundai take the muscle Hp wars to the mustang with the genesis coupe pushing a 5,0 and a take the super car wars to the corvette with a hyundai super car with a 6.7 v 8 engine like i dream up.

The combination of the Nissan GT-R and Porsche 911 is quite a powerful engine! I hope to read a future updates for this car.

I have to admit that I was impressed with the previous performance of the Z06. If the rumor is true then it means that we could expect a more powerful Corvette in the future!
