The facelifted version of the standard Mercedes E-Class will make its world debut in January 2013 at the Detroit Auto Show with the AMG version following shortly after. Until now, it has been rumored that the next E63 AMG will come with the same M157, twin-turbocharged, 5.5-liter V-8 engine, new details suggest that the V-8 engine will be updated to deliver a total of 540 horsepower and 531 pound-feet of torque.

Depending on the market, the next E63 AMG will be offered with either a rear-wheel-drive setup, or Mercedes’->ke187 4MATIC all-wheel-drive configuration. The bad news is that when equipped with the 4MATIC system, the E63 AMG will be about 132 pounds heavier. Despite that, the new 4MATIC system will make the E63 AMG a little bit quicker than the other version, as the 0-to-60 mph sprint time will be made in about 3.5 seconds.

Mercedes will also offer a Performance Pack that will deliver an additional 25 ponies and 26 pound-feet, and will increase top speed from 155 mph to 186 mph.

Expect to see the new Mercedes E63 AMG unveiled early next year.
