A U.S. version of the Audi R8 has been seen and photographed at the Lire Rock racetrack, wearing New Jersey license plates and European specification 18 inch wheels, rather than the 19 inch wheels which will be standard equipment on the production U.S. version.

That it was the American version of the car was given away by the side marker lights, front and rear, the shape of the license plate openings, and the absence of the housing for the rear fog light in the area under the rear bumper (replaced by a black covering).

When introduced this fall, R8 prices in the United States are expected to start at $108,000 for the six-speed and $118,000 for the R tronic dual clutch transmission, but can end up substantially above those numbers with available options, such as the Alcantra trim, navigation system, reverse camera and Bang & Olufsen optional audio system.
