Toyota is on a roll giving us exciting models, thanks to the performance masters at Gazoo Racing. While the GR Supra and GR86 cover the performance coupe niche, Toyota has another exciting model in the pipeline. The GR Corolla has been talked about for a while as the brand’s all-wheel-drive hot hatchback, and Toyota just announced its debut date - March 31, 2022.

Toyota is still keeping a tight lip regarding performance figures. We know that the GR Corolla is coming with the 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-three from the GR Yaris homologation rally car}, which is not available in the U.S. We also know that it’s coming with a six-speed manual and Gazoo Racing’s intelligent all-wheel-drive system.

There have been rumors that the GR Corolla may have a bit more power than the GR Yaris’ 268 horsepower and 273 pound-feet (370 Nm). While those rumors have not been confirmed, we know that Toyota Gazoo Racing is working on a new version of an even crazier Yaris GRMN. Whether GR Corolla ends up having closer to 300 horsepower remains to be seen.

Even if power output stays the same as the GR Yaris, the GR Corolla is shaping up to be a serious competitor to the likes of the VW Golf GTI, Hyundai Veloster N, Hyundai i30N (not available in the U.S.), and Subaru WRX. Thanks to Toyota’s leaked “road map,” we also found out that the Toyota GR Corolla is going on sale in October 2022, with a predicted MSRP of around $30,000.
