It’s a labor of passion that aims to beat the odds

Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus, also known as SCG, just announced its latest project. It’s called the SCG 007 LMP1 and it’s designed to bring home the glory at the most famous endurance racing event in the world - the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Announced in a recent post to social media, not much is known about the new hypercar, but the boutique automaker has piqued our interest all the same.

“This is for America. For Briggs, Carroll, and Jim Hall. For all of us,” the boutique automaker states on social media.

Tackling the 24 Hours of Le Mans head-on is no small proposal, but SCG is getting pumped up all the same, as evidenced in its recent Facebook post:

“This is for America. For Briggs, Carroll, and Jim Hall. For all of us,” the social post states. “SCG will operate at cost for this program and will fund it no matter what even if it’s just one car racing against the World.”

Did you hear that? Coulda sworn we just heard the soaring call of a bald eagle…

Regardless, SCG will build and sell a batch of 25 road-legal 007’s, plus an additional racing version, with all the profits funneled into the company’s LMP1 effort.

Pricing has yet to be determined, but SCG says it’ll likely range around $1 million a pop.

So far, the project looks like it’s just a rendering, with no info offered on the engine, power levels, aero specs, or anything else of substance.

Although unconfirmed, it’s believed the 007 will run in the “production-based hypercars” class, which is set to debut in 2020 and will permit production-based supercars to compete in the fastest-of-the-fast prototype category.

“It’s been 50 years since a car built in America finished First Overall at Le Mans,” SCG says, referencing Ford’s win in 1969 with the GT40. “We aim to change that.”

Don’t count ‘em out quite yet - SCG has loads of experience at the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring.

Bold words, but it takes more than that to win at Le Mans. But don’t count ‘em out quite yet - SCG has loads of experience at the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring, even managing a class win with the SCG 003 earlier this year. Not bad, but taking away top honors at Le Mans is still an enormously difficult thing to pull off. Just ask Toyota.

Other SCG projects include the SCG 004, a high-volume three-seat sports car, the SCG 005, a Baja-inspired off-roader type vehicle, and the SCG 006, an old school roadster sports car. Like the 007, these are all really cool ideas, but we have to ask - will they become a reality?
