PSA has been attempting to reduce the number of platforms across its brands and increase more ‘sharing’ within the family. As such, Opel and Vauxhall will be using the EMP2 platform for the Astra L. The same platform underpins other products including the new Grandland X SUV. This also opens a wide array of options for Opel/Vauxhall, as the EMP2 platform will allow the Astra L to go for electrification.

What to Expect from the 2021 Opel Astra

Design cues will be borrowed from the Grandland X, and it is expected to be around 4.35 meters (just over 14 feet) long. Apart from the petrol engines which are expected to generate between 108 horses and 215 horses, the next-generation Astra will be offered with diesel engines too. The engines will produce between 100 and 175 horses, depending on the trim. A plug-in hybrid, is therefore, a possibility. In fact, a few scoops suggest that the hybrid powertrain will consist of a petrol unit and electric motor, and will produce around 200 horses.

Facelift Before The Next-Gen!

Some spy shots have revealed that the car under camouflage will come with new bumpers, a reworked grille, and new headlights. The facelifted Astra will most probably debut before the end of the year at a standalone event, as the brand will skip the upcoming Paris Motor Show.
