The sixth generation Golf has just been unveiled, but that has not stopped the overachieving German company from starting to work on the seventh generation. Like many other Volkswagen models, the future Golf VII will be designed by Walter de Silva, so expect the same design lines as found in the recently launched Scirocco.

While the design for the seventh generation Golf will come as no surprise, the big news will be under the hood. For the first time in Golf history, the Volkswagen will use Twin Drive hybrid technology that combines a 1.5-liter diesel with three electric motors. Also a first in the Volkswagen model will be the HCCI engine - a petrol engine that acts like a diesel- with no spark plug and combustion due to sheer compression.

Aesthetically, there doesn’t seem to be too many changes to the Golf model. We do see a slight resemblance to the lines of the Scirocco, but we also see major resemblances between the sixth and seventh generations.

The new generation Golf is expected to debut in 2012 and will be offered in different body versions, including a convertible.

Yeah, this car has won the best and affordable hatchback! Well, I think it will long enough before the VW would decide to build a successor of this model.

hmm. What a car! I like the sportiness of this hatchback and I think the reason why VW keeps on making a production of this car is because everyone still like to have. And of course its cheaper price will be a great deal as well!

With the recent crisis that we are experiencing, I am still in doubt if Diesel would be helpful to the car manufacturers. I know how expensive it is. But hopefully, everything will go back into its normal pricing. I’m concern about the expenses and we all know that the consumers will suffer most.

I hope that VW brings this to North America in a Diesel. This is a large segment that is going to lose some steam due to rising fuel prices. An economical (ie Diesel) version should sell well.

pretty nice. I’m curious about the new cross polo. the last one looked great..... now this with 1.4 tsi engine. it must be great. what i don’t get is the super- and turbocharged engine. if they can do that, why don’t make a twin turbo 1.4 ...variable twin. smiley

Well it’s the same designer who designs the scirocco... I bet it would look like it.

Well, IMO it looks like the scirocco. I bet that it’s designer of the new golf is the same designer as the scirocco.

Cool! But not that impressive looking, plus the old model’s aggressiveness and bold body are removed by VW.

Stunningly beautiful and aggressive! I must admit that the looks are smoother and softer than the previous one.
